Why did I ever think...
Ourmedia, once it gets going really well, will be great for everyone. Right now, they're still in the opening stage, and there has been a lot of buzz about it, so they're dealing with scalability problems. People can host their radio shows on it, songs, videos, for eternity. This is huge for independent artists, like myself, who'd like to show their stuff, but have no money to do it, and aren't sure what the demand for looking or listening to their art, actually is. Archive.org, one of my favorite sites, has really come through big, in my opinion, in furthering what little culture we have left. Ourmedia's mission statement is really amazing, and something I think has been missing from the net for a long time. The net, remember, originally was for research. Now, just like everything else, it's turned into one big money making empire based on bits and wires and WAPs. A far cry, in my opinion, from what the net was originally for.

I found out about Archive.org when a friend told me about the invaluable Live Music Archive Lots of lossless files on this, and lots of concerts... all for archival. We need more things like this. Check it out, if you have 48 hours... because it's bigger than a museum.

Someone say that it's ok to not know who you are; someone tell... many people have difficulty figuring out who they are, I'm no exception. I think these past couple of weeks, it's been weird seeing that in CLD too. We have these tiny little specs of everyone knowing who we are, but mostly it's kind of an expanding act. I think everyone in the band has a different opinion of what we are, and it can get difficult to deal with. We've been trying to figure out a new cover song of some sort, and I think it's really coming to a point that we're having major problems figuring one out, and it's leading to somewhat of an identity crisis. The goal is to cover a song, straight up, that people will recognize, yet, isn't a departure from what we're doing. We've brought up a kagillion songs, and almost every song has an issue with it. Too recognizable, too stupid, too happy, too off-base, too cheesy, et cetera.

My major idea of "identity", has something to do with things just happening. The things that happen around you, make up your identity. I'm not too into "creating" an identity. I'd rather just be. Whatever happens, happens, and you sift through it for clues to yourself. "To find yourself, you first must lose yourself." So when the issue comes up that we're figuring out our identity, and we set up rules based on that perceived identity, I don't feel that we're losing ourselves to find ourselves; we're manufacturing something. Manufacturing an identity. Upon realization of that fact, it's pretty stressful. So, someone say that's ok... someone say it's ok to not totally understand yourself...

Bill Nye the Science Guy:

When I was in college, you know what one of my dreams was? I wanted to work for Bill Nye the Science Guy, doing multimedia things on his show. Sound design, graphical cues, animation, video, help with experiments, working on his science cover songs, anything. Bill Nye... that was my dream. Well, I graduated, and some how, some way, Bill Nye lost his show... at least, he wasn't airing anything new. Already, I had been pretty discouraged as to how to figure out how to go about getting on anything Bill Nye, but this made it even harder. They slowly took away the re-runs of Bill Nye, and I've been in some what of a withdrawal. I can't remember the last time Bill Nye was on. The closest I've gotten to Bill Nye the past several years, is watching Elton Brown's food show on TLC... and that only deals with, well, food. I just learned from Slashdot, that Bill Nye has a new show. The Eyes of Nye. When's it coming to my area? I have no frickin' idea. Come on networks, pick up Bill Nye's new show. Hopefully it'll be a little like Bill Nye the Science Guy, and my little dream I once had will be alive once again. How to get on that crew... I have no idea. But I couldn't think of a bad consequence of surrounding myself with all things Bill Nye...
