Murmur:
Yesterday, I brought our cat, Kasha, into the vet, to get her updated on her shots. You see, the plan was that my wife and I were going to become this crazy cat couple with a bunch of cats. Only, the cats that we wanted to adopt usually would require our cat, Kasha, to be updated on her shots. She only needed one shot updated, so that was good. She weighed in at just over 8 pounds, and seems like a generally healthy cat. She doesn't like her ears looked at, so our vet thought she might have had problems with them at one time. To be certain, I don’t think she has had any problems. She just doesn't like her ears being touched. Her teeth looked good (a bit of swollen gums, but nothing too crazy) Then the vet listened to her heart, and found something; a murmur. I didn't really think much of it. As a kid, I was diagnosed with a slight heart murmur, but I haven't really had any problems with it. The vet went out of the room and got a better stethoscope, and sure enough, it was a heart murmur. I got to listen to it. One side of her is like a techno beat. Thump, thump, thump, thump, thump, thump. I expected a New Order song to start. Then, the other side of her, it's the same thump rhythm, only, it sounds like a kick drum pedal needs lubrication or something. Along with the nice thump sound, is a small squeak. I'm sure not many people would notice the small difference, but I did. From here the vet described what the murmur could be, all the while I look at her like "aw, it's no big deal..." She brought out a book with diagrams of the heart, showing hypercardiomyapothy, where the walls of the heart distort the blood cells by either being too thick, or too thin. She showed some different types of valve diseases as well, but I didn't really understand them.
Anyway, Kasha is going to have to have some testing done to find out what's causing her heart murmur. Poor girl. We'll have an echocardiogram done, and a couple of radiology pictures taken. Some heart diseases get grown out of, some are treatable with medicine, some, we can't do anything about. That's what I'm worried about. I'm hoping, honestly, that there's nothing wrong, and it was just a fluke that her heart had a murmur yesterday. Last night, Kasha looked a bit tired, exhausted and weary. I felt bad. Was it something that we did wrong to cause this? I sure hope not.
