In Search of the Underground Dairy Queen:
My wife and I went out to Dairy Queen last night, after watching another episode of the OC. The OC is like night time soap opera to me, only, much better, and not as frustrating. Plots twists and turns. Entertainment.
Dairy Queen houses one of the best soft serve ideas known to man, and that's the Dipped Ice Cream cone. I'm not talking any sort of dipped cone, I'm talking cherry dipped cone. Cherry hard shell NEEDS to be sold, for the very reason that we're both addicted to it. Dairy Queen could make a fortune selling vats of the stuff to us alone. We've searched long and hard for a way to buy cherry hard shell, but to no avail. Chocolate, Carmel, Twix, and even Snickers hard shell exists, but no cherry hard shell. There has to be a way to make this stuff. Right?
After we both got a medium sized cone, we both decided to take it to go. There were a lot of families there, and we figured it'd be nicer for them if we didn't hog up a both that could have been used by a whole family instead.
We drove around for a little bit, and went to check out a house we had spied on the internet. It was about 15 minutes north of where we were, so it was a bit of a trip. We started looking for a first house to buy a couple of weeks ago, and it seems like a daunting task, though, I think it's kind of fun to look around at different neighborhoods, or cities. This has been a goal that we've had for a while, even before we got married, and honestly, this has been the closest we've been to "shopping for houses". I think there may be a bunch of sacrifices that we'll have to make once we buy a house, and some things may have to be rethought or eliminated, but I think those sacrifices will be well worth it, as we will have reached a long standing goal, and that's really important to us.
This house we saw on the internet is further north than I thought, and seemed kind of out of our area. Though, it would be kind of cool to see the funny ABS sign (a cattle breeder in Southern Wisconsin) everyday. We traveled on a twisty bending road, and got to the little area that it was in, north of DeForest. We could hear a train passing, (the Soo Line passes through this little community) so I pulled over where we were at. We were about a block away from the tracks, and honestly, it was pretty loud. We traveled a bit further after the train had passed, and what do you know? The house for sale is one house away from the train tracks. A cool house, a 4 bedroom Victorian, with a two tone paint scheme. I don't think we could handle living that close to the tracks though. Plus, the area left something to be desired to us as far as location, but then again, that's probably why a 4 bedroom Victorian house was in our "price range".
In all reality, we don't know what our price range is. We have a few extra steps to take before getting the ball rolling and actually shopping for a house, and we're unsure of a time frame. Who knows, maybe we won't be able to do it at all... All this can be a little frustrating, but I think we're both being pretty patient about it. All of this started when we received our lease renewal, and started to notice cool houses in the area. Plus, our lease is up at the end of June. That may be a bit too quick of a turn around, but it's worth a shot, right? To sign a renewal, or not, that is the question...
