If it's alright with you, I think I'd like to skip the likkidy and just split:
Listened to this morning:
Bluetip
At first glance, Bluetip, to me, was about lyrical poetry sassiness. It dedicated itself to the cool; to the hip factor. Kind of in-your-face annoying for a couple of seconds. Jason Farrell's voice has this suave sassy sound to it, that made you feel like, yep, this guy is way cooler than you'll ever be. Then on other listens, I realized most of that sass was tongue-in-cheek, and he was actually trying to be like an everyday creative Joe. The lyrics weave in and out of the music like interesting poetry that really makes you think about what the subject is about. A lot of times, there is no chorus and is no verse. It's just a story that's written in poem form to keep the listener's attention. Jason Farrell's packaging designs are outrageous, and all Bluetip CDs, and 7" vinyl designs are a part of that. I don't know if he's a package designer by day or what, but that guy has the skills that makes museum curators envious, and OCD artists jealous because of the sheer number of these packages that get done. Most all of his packaging designs (even on the Riddle of Steel packaging for Python), have a unique die-cut, and folding scheme. Not to mention some strange printing (usually a metallic color) to boot. Listening to Bluetip this morning made me get this unique energy that made me want to see live shows. Not sure why, but it did.
I love hockey:
How many people do you know that can say, that they watched the boys and girls state hockey championships, a WCHA game between UMD and UW, and the WCHA Women's Hockey championship (online even!), all in a weekend? I think the pinnacle was watching streaming video of the Women's hockey championship on the internet. Not only was it an awesome game, but it had stuff in it that I had never seen before. UofMinn was up 2-0 with 52 seconds remaining in regulation when UW scored a goal after just pulling their goaltender for an extra attacker. 26 seconds later, UW scored again to tie it, along with getting a penalty after the play. Then they got a high sticking call as regulation came to a close. Amazing. I've never seen anything like it. Then, in overtime, UofMinn scored 12 seconds in. Both teams played a pretty flawless game, which was so entertaining to watch. NHL, you've got nothing on this game. Too bad it wasn't televised.
I love things to do:
This week is loaded with things to do. I love it. Thursday night, I may go see They Might be Giants at Luther's Blues in Madison. Friday night I may step in to the WTF radio show (lots of factors on that one though). Saturday, we're going to the UW men's hockey first round playoff game at the Dane County Coliseum as the Kohl Center is being used for HS basketball. Then, Sunday, I'll probably end up going to see Interpol in Milwaukee at the Eagles Ballroom. Now to figure out if I can actually do and afford all these things.... The hockey game is a definite... Can't miss the Dane County Coliseum hockey game, as that place rocks. Speaking of a place that rocks, I'd love to see a WCHA hockey game at Michigan Tech. I saw a replay of the UofMinn and MichTech game from this past weekend, and that place looks TINY. The rink is so dang small, almost like the shell in Madison. Tiny. Awesome. 3,000 capacity. Awesome.
