And the party started:
I'm pretty enthralled at this point... There are some things coming up that are pretty big, and interesting to me. I'm getting shivers down my spine thinking about NCAA Hockey tournaments, and conference tournaments. They all start tonight for me (though some games were played last weekend, and during this week), with UW taking on UAA. We've got tickets to the Saturday game, as that won't be televised, plus, the Dane County Coliseum rocks the house. Next weekend, I think I'm not going to leave the house as I'll be pressed up to my TV watching College Hockey Breakaway Weekend, while my wife is away doing wedding shower/party things. If the Badger women's hockey team ends up hosting a round of the NCAA regional, I might check that out too, though we won't know about that until this Sunday. Oof, I'm getting shivers just thinking about it.
Also coming up, is the Interpol show in Milwaukee this Sunday, which, unfortunately I'll be attending alone. Also unfortunate is the fact that a band called Stars is playing at the Catacombs in Madison the same night. I'd be really interested in checking them out, but since I'm already committed to seeing Interpol, it'd be difficult (read: impossible) to see both. I know very little about Stars, and I know a lot about Interpol. Also, on the going to shows front, I believe I just scored a ticket to see Slint at the Metro in Chicago on March 25th. Score! I was residing myself to the fact that I wouldn't be able to go, but a friend offered me a ticket, and voila. Really looking forward to it. "Hey Steve, these headphones are ****ed up, they're only coming out on one side, like the... Should I just bear with it or what? S***, they're f***ed. Oh man, no wait, Steve's getting me some new headphones. He's shown you all that's going on, up with the sun and moon he chooses your dawn, now he's come home to retire with his young, and now he knows that he's not long now his bridges sigh eternally and now he comes home, finds a book to read, he turns the pages"
I didn't go to see They Might Be Giants last night, because I was him-hawing over if I should go or not, and then time decided for me (it ran out). I was trying to figure out if they'd actually play a set or not, and the more and more I thought about it, the more I leaned towards thinking they weren't going to be playing an actual set (I don't know if I was right or not). Plus, I wanted to be with my wife, and since she was tired, going to TMBG was out of the question. Also, considering that we both went to sleep at about 10pm, I was really too tired to step foot into that show anyway. If I lived closer, maybe it'd would've been a bit easier to do.
Tonight, rounds up another score of CLD run throughs of our songs. We're planning on recording some songs very carefully, and very critically, and I don't think we're anywhere near the performance level we should be at to get a good recording done. Perhaps tonight we'll start bouncing ideas around to get closer to that end? Not sure. I do know that before I leave for practice, I'm taking in a period of WCHA hockey playoffs, and then trying to get back for the tape delayed version at night on PBS. Exciting, exciting.
